Bachelor in Education (B. Ed.)

The Bachelor in Education (B.Ed.) with Digital Skills pathway at Kapan Campus is a four-year undergraduate program offered under Bagmati University. The program is designed to prepare competent, ethical, professionally responsible, and digitally capable teachers for Nepal’s evolving school education system.

The B.Ed. curriculum follows a core-specialization model with practicum activities. It combines educational foundations, two subject specializations, life-skill or vocational education, practical teaching experience, and internship. Students selecting the Digital Skills pathway complete a progressive series of courses focused on the effective use of digital technologies in education.

Through lectures, workshops, classroom activities, digital practice, teaching demonstrations, school-based experiences, and internships, students develop subject knowledge, pedagogical competence, communication skills, classroom management ability, and confidence in using technology to support teaching and learning.

Program Objectives

The B.Ed. program at Kapan Campus aims to prepare knowledgeable, skilled, ethical, and technology-enabled teachers who can respond effectively to the changing needs of schools and learners. The objectives of the program are:

To provide strong foundations in educational philosophy, psychology, curriculum, assessment, teaching methods, guidance, educational leadership, and classroom practice.
To develop subject knowledge and pedagogical competence through two selected specialization areas.
To strengthen teachers’ digital competence through structured courses in digital skills, educational technology, and technology-supported teaching.
To prepare graduates to plan lessons, manage classrooms, assess learning, address diverse learner needs, and create engaging learning environments.
To promote ethical responsibility, communication, research, reflective practice, teamwork, leadership, lifelong learning, and professional development.

Duration and Credit Hours

Duration: Four years, divided into eight semesters.

Total Credit Hours: 144 credit hours.

B.Ed. Course Structure

The B.Ed. curriculum consists of core education courses, two subject specializations, life-skill or vocational courses, practicum activities, and internships. Each semester carries 18 credit hours.

Core Education Courses

Students complete one core education course in each semester. These courses progressively develop their knowledge of communication, learning, educational psychology, digital literacy, curriculum, assessment, guidance, policy, and leadership.

Digital Skills for Teachers

Students choosing Digital Skills as their life-skill or vocational area complete three sequential courses during the first three semesters:

DIG411: Digital Skills for Teachers–I
DIG421: Digital Skills for Teachers–II
DIG431: Digital Skills for Teachers–III

These courses are designed to strengthen students’ practical use of digital tools and applications for teaching, communication, content preparation, classroom activities, assessment, and professional development. Digital Literacy in Education is also included as a core course in Semester IV.

Specialization Areas

Students study two specialization areas to build both subject knowledge and subject-specific teaching competence. The specialization areas prescribed in the Bagmati University course structure include:

B.Ed. Admission and Eligibility

Candidates applying for admission to the B.Ed. program at Kapan Campus must meet the eligibility requirements prescribed by Bagmati University. Applicants must have:

Completed Grade 12, Proficiency Certificate Level, or an equivalent qualification recognized by the Government of Nepal.
Fulfilled the minimum academic qualification, grade, or division requirements prescribed by Bagmati University.
Completed the online application process within the specified deadline.
Obtained the required pass marks in the entrance examination conducted by Bagmati University.

Entrance Examination

Admission to the B.Ed. program at Kapan Campus is based on the entrance examination and admission procedures prescribed by Bagmati University. Eligible candidates must submit the online entrance application, attend the entrance examination, and complete the required admission procedures within the announced schedule.

Teaching and Learning Methods

The B.Ed. program follows a student-centered, practical, reflective, and outcome-based instructional approach. Teaching and learning activities include lectures, group discussions, workshops, demonstrations, presentations, case studies, digital exercises, lesson planning, microteaching, classroom observation, teaching practice, assignments, and school-based activities.

Students learn to use digital resources, productivity applications, presentation tools, online learning platforms, multimedia content, and other educational technologies. These activities develop subject knowledge, pedagogical understanding, digital confidence, communication ability, and classroom readiness.

Practicum and Internship

Practicum activities are integrated throughout the program to connect educational theory with classroom practice. Students participate in lesson planning, teaching demonstrations, classroom observation, assessment activities, educational projects, reflective practice, and other practical assignments.

The curriculum includes 15 credit hours of internship distributed across Semesters IV to VIII. During the internship, students gain supervised experience in schools or relevant educational institutions and apply their subject knowledge, teaching methods, classroom management skills, assessment techniques, and digital competencies in authentic learning environments.

Students may be required to prepare lesson plans, teaching portfolios, reflective records, practicum reports, and internship reports according to the format and evaluation requirements prescribed by the university.

Graduates of the B.Ed. program with Digital Skills can pursue careers as school teachers, subject teachers, digital learning facilitators, educational content developers, instructional support professionals, education project assistants, training facilitators, academic coordinators, and education administrators, subject to applicable professional and regulatory requirements.
